Launch of ‘Old Blarney’ Journal Issue 12

Mr. Sean Horgan
Mr. John Mulcahy
Wednesday December 4th 2019 was a rather special occasion in the annals of the Blarney and District Historical Society when the latest edition of the ‘Old Blarney’ Journal was launched at 8.00 p.m. at the Blarney Castle Hotel, The Square, Blarney. This brings the number of ‘Old Blarney’ Journals published to 12 plus five ‘Old Blarney’ Photo Journals, making a total of 17 publications over a period of 34 years.
Master of Ceremonies was Chairperson of the Society, Mr. Sean Horgan, who welcomed all the guests and thanked all those who had any hand, act or part in the production of this excellent publication. This included the authors of individual articles, the Honourary Editor, John Mulcahy, the publications committee, the printer, Carraig Print and the outlets through which we sell our journals, also the print and radio media.
He had a special word of thanks for Mr. Ian Forrest and the Forrest family of the Blarney Castle Hotel who once again sponsored the occasion. The Killowen Room was put at our disposal and an outstanding appetising selection of finger food was made available to our guests.
Sean introduced John Mulcahy and invited him to launch the journal. John began by highlighting the work of the Society and promised a continuing supply of future issues. John was fulsome in his praise for the quality of the articles by the contributors, thanked them and then gave a brief resume of each item before officially launching the Journal.
These Journals make a lovely Christmas present and were very well received by the audience. Many were purchased on the night in time for Christmas posting to family and friends living abroad. Sean thanked John for launching the Journal and reminded the audience that the Society is very proud of the fact that copies of all our publications are available in local libraries for anyone wishing to research the history of Blarney and District. After thanking, once again, the Forrest Family for their generous hospitality, he invited all those attending to part-take of the wonderful refreshments provided by the Blarney Castle Hotel.
